My beautiful 19 year old daughter Melissa Avrin died on May 6, 2009 after a 5 year battle with an eating disorder. Inclusion of eating disorders in mental health reform is critical in the battle to save lives.

without including eating disorders in the covered services of the Affordable Care Act, many people will continue to die as a result. Every day people are denied treatment because eating disorders remain elusive to coverage doled out by providers and insurers. This happens mostly because eating disorders continue to be grossly misunderstood by both the public and professional communities. Just as obesity and related health-effects are covered by most insurers (including weight-loss surgery), so too must eating disorders (binge eating disorder, anorexia, bulimia, and eating disorders not otherwise specified) be covered. The list of medical complications of eating disorders is long and life-threatening --eating disorders effect every single system of the body. Thank you for considering this.

This is very important.. Eating disorders are not a choice, it's a real disease. Not only young women are effectd by this, young girls, young men, ect.. It's world wide!! Hear our VOICES!! If my parents didn't have the funds to get me the help I needed I would be six feet under. I lost a few friends' who died from disease and they shouldn't have. Please, put this in the Healthcare Reform.
