The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration

SAMHSA Stakeholder Feedback

What topic(s) would you like to see covered in the Advisory serial publications?

Hepatitis Screening and Linkage to Care

Hepatitis is very prevalent among people with a history of substance abuse. With a new rapid test on the market, people will be able to find out their status easier and faster, but linkage to medical services is often a challenge. I would like to see a Advisory that highlights models that have successfully bridged the gap between mental/behavioral health and substance abuse services and specialty medical care for hepatitis.

SAMHSA has approved a Treatment Improvement Protocol (TIP) on hepatitis and substance abuse. However, the information on rapid screening may not reflect the latest technology. Since SAMHSA recently released an Advisory on Rapid HIV testing in substance abuse treatment facilities perhaps a similar advisory on Rapid HCV testing in substance abuse treatment would be advisable.
