No one should lose his or her civil and human rights due to alleged illness of any kind!

It's astonishing that it has even been necessary to vote on this after the ghastly revelations of recent years - cf eg Kenya and Bulgaria institutions. For those doubting the research there are out there good discussions of the damaging effects of psychtropic drugs, including the vicious circle of them aggravating the very symptoms they set out to 'cure'. As many have said earlier, this is a clear human rights issue. The advocates of forced treatment are living in the 50's, with a "drug 'em and forget 'em" mentality.

This a human rights issue. The "illnesses" these substances are intended to treat are subjective constructs, as admitted by senior American Psychiatric Association leaders. As subjective constructs not based on objective empirical proof, anyone can be "diagnosed" as mentally ill and forced, under current legal principles based on supposed psychiatric science, to undergo treatment, including forced drugging.

Not only is forced drugging damaging to the body and mind but it is also permanently damaging to the psych. Stop this trauma!!!

I support these guiding principles. Without self-determination, we are all merely slaves.

I support these guiding principles. I would like to add that, along with choice, there needs to be desirable options. I can remember many times being told something like "you can either stay in the patient day room or go into restraints." Well, that involved choice, but I didn't like either option.

Self-Determination and Choice also require access, because it's access that enhances the list of options from which to choose.

choice and human rights are all that we ask for. If the drugs they forced down our throats actualy made us feel better, we would take them. We do not choose to feel like ****!

No should mean no. End all forced psychiatric drugs and ECT. People end up worse after them.

      • AnonymousAnonymous commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

Pharmaceutical company effectiveness and safety studies, as well as FDA regulation, are extensively corrupted and fraud is widespread. There are a few long-term studies, or studies of how drugs combine together. The real extent of
of psychiatric drug dangers may never be accurately known. Taking Psychiatric drugs is in many ways society-wide experimentation, with patients as guinea pigs.

      • LillianLillian commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

No one should be forced to take psychiatric drugs against their will. Psychiatric drugs do not heal, they do more harm than good. People who take psychiatric drugs, especially socalled anti-psychotics, are often more likely to become long-term and chronic mental patients. Many people recover faster and do much better without drugs.

Stop using psychotropic drugs specially Antipsychotics. You can not addict people to something worse than heroin to treat them. Psychotropic masks the root of the problem, stops researchers to cure the problem and protect the sick system. These medication and drugs are the reason that jails are full, there is psychiatric unit every where and our street are full of people who can not take care of themselves. Find the root , do not poison innocent people.
